Nearly 30 years ago the First Baptist Church of Delray Beach began to sense God's leading to start another church in Delray Beach. In February 1977, under the leadership of Dr. Andrew M. Hall, First Baptist took the step of faith and purchased five acres on Barwick Road - the future home of the Barwick Road Mission.
In the spring of 1982, as the vision continued, the Missions and Evangelism Committee of First Baptist began prayer meetings in homes, and Rev. Ralph M. Nygard was called to be mission pastor of the new work.
It wasn't long before formal services began on January 2, 1983, at the Lake Worth Drainage District Building on Military Trail. A year later, on January 9, 1984, construction of our present worship center began. Excitement grew as the worship center was completed in time to hold Easter Services on April 22, 1984.
On June 2, 1985, Barwick Road Mission was formally constituted into a self-supporting and cooperating church and became The Barwick Road Baptist Church.
In January of 1986, with Sunday school attendance reaching near capacities of current building space, the church sensed God's call to build a new education facility. Ground breaking ceremonies took place on Easter Sunday, 1987 and the new building was completed a short time later.
Remembering the song "We've Only Just Begun," Barwick Road Baptist Church has only begun to complete the work God started as just a vision so many years ago. With a fresh sense of excitement, and a new and innovative style, we move toward an even greater impact in the lives of those in our home, community, and world. By the unfailing power of the Holy Spirit of God, the vision continues!
